Living and Loving
Inspiration for the LiveSpeakLove name and philosophy comes from a very special lady–my mother-in-law, Nancy. Nancy is a pediatric nurse practitioner for Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter’s in Hampton Roads, VA, and has been working in the pediatric practice since 1985. In July, 2011, Nancy was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS,) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Nancy immediately told family and friends that her wish was to not dwell on the prognosis, but to instead focus on living and loving. Soon after Nancy’s diagnosis, a team was formed in her honor to raise money for ALS. Nancy chose the name for the team herself — Living and Loving. Everyone who knows Nancy agreed that the name was a perfect fit, representing the way in which Nancy has approached life for a very long time. As she continues in her journey, we all are inspired by the Living and Loving that Nancy exemplifies even in the midst of struggle, frustration and hardship.
LiveSpeakLove seeks to continue the philosophy that inspires so many. My wish is to help children with the same heart, passion and commitment that Nancy shows us in all she does. In doing so, I hope to honor an amazing lady throughout a most difficult journey.
